Reformulated Colours – do not include E120 colouring, it has been replaced with E127 (Carmine food colouring)

Halal certification – there’s always confusion around whether E120 can be regarded as Halal. Various religious authorities and scholars disagree, so no matter what the manufacturer states some customers will also disagree. This is a matter for Muslim academics, but our understanding is that under the Maliki school of thought, carmine (E120) is permissible if prepared in the correct manner. The UAE has stated that within Sharia Law, E120 is Halal. Colour Mill have full Halal certification. Some Muslim customers from other schools of thought may disagree about it being Halal, so our advice is to make sure your sales listings (website / Amazon / eBay etc) state this clearly and let your customers decide if they wish to purchase these colours.
